UNT Appoints Scholar Focused on Race and Neoliberalism as Interim Provost

The University of North Texas selected Albert Bimper to serve as interim provost, placing an experienced higher-education administrator in the university's top academic post.
The appointment followed the planned transition of Michael McPherson, whom UNT President Harrison Keller named senior adviser to the president in May. UNT said at the time that more information about an interim appointment would follow a Board of Regents meeting.
Who is Albert Bimper?
Bimper joined UNT after holding a series of leadership roles at Colorado State University. A native of Arlington and graduate of Bowie High School, Bimper played football at Colorado State and was part of the Indianapolis Colts organization during its 2006 Super Bowl season. He earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree from Purdue University, and a bachelor's degree from Colorado State.
